Giulio Pedota will share the challenges of lighting the Chicago Riverwalk, a project located in a flooding zone and requiring all the fixtures to be IP68 rated. Attendants will learn about the benefits and drawbacks associated with using LED technology in this type of application, where project schedules are long, budgets are relatively low, codes are stringent, and where the selection and integration of fixtures into the architecture are governed by practical city maintenance. Giulio will reveal to the audience how this was achieved successfully, considering the constraints, and how this lighting design departs from the stark, security-style lighting of the past, and provides a more masterful solution that is more playful, welcoming and interactive.
